This cosmetic dentistry treatment is a type of porcelain veneer designed to improve the aesthetics of your smile.  Lumineers are thinner than traditional porcelain veneers and require little or no alteration to your natural teeth.

Lumineers vs. Traditional Porcelain Veneers

Lumineers is a highly requested and popular brand of veneers designed to cover the front surface of teeth, concealing minor cosmetic issues. Although similar in function to traditional veneers, this particular type of veneer is so thin that they require little to no enamel removal before being placed over the tooth. Because of this, if at any point the patient desires to reverse treatment, they can do so without any issues.

Lumineers is a highly requested and popular brand of veneers designed to cover the front surface of teeth, concealing minor cosmetic issues.

Traditional veneers are thicker than Lumineers, and are often referred to as conservative crowns. Since the tooth’s natural structure must be altered to provide a seamless fit for traditional veneers, this treatment requires anesthesia, temporary veneers, and is irreversible. In addition, patients who struggle with dental sensitivity are at greater risk for experiencing discomfort during the placement process.

Who Are Good Candidates for Lumineers?

You may be a good candidate for Lumineers if you are looking for a less invasive approach to porcelain veneers and have teeth that are:

  • Healthy with no signs of decay or gum disease
  • Chipped or have worn edges
  • Slightly gapped or misaligned
  • Stained or discolored
  • Short or disproportionate

How Do Lumineers Work?

The Lumineers placement process generally require two office visits. During your first visit, Dr. Murray or Dr. Alexander will perform a thorough examination of your teeth and gums to ensure your enamel is strong enough to withstand veneers. This will also allow your doctor to determine if there is any gum disease or tooth decay that first needs to be addressed, as well as review your cosmetic goals to create a personalized treatment plan.

Once your treatment plan has been established, digital impressions will be taken and sent to the Lumineers lab where each veneer will be custom made to fit your smile. In approximately two to three weeks, you can return to our office for your second visit, where your doctor will check to ensure that each veneer adequately fits before permanently placement. If no adjustments are required, the affected teeth will be prepared and the Lumineers will be permanently bonded to your teeth. After they are secured, your doctor will check your bite for proper occlusion and polish your teeth to reveal your dazzling new smile.
