At Pampered Smiles, we want you to enjoy a healthy, beautiful smile that will last for years to come. Dr. J.D. Murray and Dr. William Alexander can both place and restore dental implants at their East Point, GA, office. With this treatment, they can provide you with the most stable and natural-looking restorations available. If you are missing one or more teeth, you may be a good candidate for implants.
How Dental Implants Restore Your Smile
Implants are made of biocompatible titanium and replace lost tooth roots. Dr. Murray or Dr. Alexander will position the posts in your jaw during a carefully planned oral surgery. After your gum and bone tissue heal around the posts, they can support a crown, bridge, or denture. You will typically receive one post for a crown, two for a bridge, and four or more for a denture.
Are You a Candidate for Implants?
We will schedule you for a complete exam and consultation with our team at Pampered Smiles to determine if you qualify for dental implants. Your dentist will use our computerized tomography (CT) scanner to look for bone recession. Bone loss can affect your ability to receive implants because you must have enough tissue to support the posts. Nevertheless, a bone graft can often rebuild your jaw structure. If you do not have enough room for implants in your upper jaw, you may require a sinus lift prior to implant surgery.
Some patients may choose to receive All-on-4® implants, which can restore your smile with just four implants supporting an entire full-arch prosthesis. This technique can eliminate the need for a bone graft, as the four implants are placed at an angle, which evenly distributes force.
Ideal candidates should also be in good overall health and not have any unresolved oral health issues. Conditions such as gum disease must be treated before receiving implants. You also should not smoke during treatment, as this can decrease your ability to heal, and limit the success of your implants.
What Happens When You Receive Dental Implants?
One of the doctors at Pampered Smiles will surgically place your implants in your jaw during a brief procedure. The posts will be placed the the strongest areas of your jaw, and may be specially angled with innovative techniques to support restorations with the least impact on your jaw. Once the implants are in place, we will suture your gums and allow them to heal.
Typically, it will take four to six months for the implants to fully integrate with your jaw. While you are healing, you can usually wear a temporary restoration. When you have fully recovered, Dr. Murray or Dr. Alexander will attach abutment pieces to connect your permanent restoration to your implants for a fully restored smile.

The Benefits of Dental Implants
Virtually all dental experts consider implants to be the ultimate solution in restorative dentistry for missing teeth. One of the most significant benefits provided by implants is that they prevent bone recession that is otherwise unavoidable after tooth loss. Your facial features will be preserved, preventing the sunken look associated with missing teeth, and eliminating the need to have dentures relined to fit your changing jaw shape.
The implants also provide unparalleled stability to your restorations. Because your jawbone will fuse around the implants, the posts will become fixed in your jaw. Your prosthesis will be incredibly more secure than traditional restorations. You will be able to eat a varied diet with virtually no restrictions. You will also be able to speak and smile confidently, enjoying the unrivaled support from your dental implants. Your implant-supported restoration will also look very realistic. Our lab uses only the finest dental materials, providing a lifelike color and shine.
