Restore the Functionality and Appearance of Damaged Teeth with Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped restorations that can be placed over a damaged tooth to preserve the remaining tooth structure. You can receive a crown to repair a tooth, or on top of dental implants to restore a missing tooth. Dr. Joseph D. Murray and Dr. William Alexander are highly experienced in the placement of dental crowns at their East Point, GA, office. You can receive a customized crown that blends with your smile and restores oral health for years to come at our practice.

Advanced, Lasting Porcelain

At Pampered Smiles, only provide all-porcelain crowns as they offer unmatched aesthetic benefits with incredible strength. These restorations can blend with your smile seamlessly. Porcelain crowns have a natural translucency which can ensure that people notice your new smile and not the dental work behind it.

Placing a Dental Crown

It typically takes two office appointments for dental crowns to be created and placed. At the first visit, Dr. Murray or Dr. Alexander will thoroughly examine and prepare your tooth. This process generally includes taking x-rays of the tooth and the surrounding tissues, and removing any decay. Your dentist will then conservatively reshape your tooth to make room for your crown. After preparing the tooth, we will take highly accurate impressions. These impressions are sent to a dental lab to create your permanent restoration. This process typically takes about two weeks, and we will provide you with a temporary crown while you wait.

At your second visit, the temporary is removed. One of our doctor's will then check the fit and color of the permanent crown and make any necessary changes to ensure it matches your smile. Once optimal fit is achieved, we will secure the crown in place. Your newly restored tooth can help you smile and eat with confidence.

The Benefits of Dental Crowns

Dental crowns will cover your entire tooth above the gum line, making them a vital part of several restorative procedures. A dental crown can be used for a range of applications, such as:

  • Restoring a tooth after root canal therapy
  • Rebuilding a severely worn tooth
  • Repairing cracked or fractured teeth
  • Covering cavities that are too large for a filling
  • Restoring a dental implant and replacing a lost tooth

The benefits of our all-porcelain restorations ensure that crowns can be used for cosmetic purposes as well. Crowns can conceal intrinsic stains that do not respond to teeth whitening, as well as cover misshaped teeth, to give you an even, aesthetic smile.

Caring for Your Restoration

Dental crowns do not need any special care, and can last up to 20 years. However, it is important to follow good oral hygiene practices to protect the underlying tooth from decay or disease. You should also limit the amount of wear and tear the crown is exposed to. You should avoid grinding your teeth, chewing ice, and using your teeth to open packages to prevent cracking porcelain crowns.
